New Zealand Double Reed Day 2011

Calling all oboe and bassoon players!
The second New Zealand Double Reed Day is almost here!

This year we’re planning:

chamber music for participants with professional coaches
back-to-basics masterclasses for adult amateurs and students
accompanied advanced masterclasses for oboe and bassoon
Q & A panel with musicians and teachers
oboe and bassoon reed classes
student performances
a recital by NZSO and APO musicians
big double reed band
vendors with double reed music and gear

This year will be even better than last: piano accompaniment, new guest artists and coaches, new vendors, more performance opportunities, and a Q & A panel with musicians in all phases of their careers

- Robert Orr and Peter Dykes of the NZSO
- Martin Lee, Ingrid Hagan, and Rachel Guan of the APO

Chamber music coaches:
- Those listed above.
- Gordon Skinner (Principal bassoon - emeritus, Sydney Symphony Orchestra), Ruth Brinkman (APO), Philippa Gravatt, Casey Gsell, Alison Jepson.

Our first reed making class of 2021 is coming up in February!

This is for double reed players of all levels to learn and improve their skills at making and adjusting their own reeds. 2pm - 4pm February 13th Auckland Philharmonia Hall, St Albans Ave Oboe reed making with Camille Wells for long scrape and Martin Lee for short scrape. Bassoon reed making with Jessica Goldbaum and assisted by Gordon Skinner. Non members $40 Non member students $25 Members $15 Spaces are limited! NZDRS Oboe and Bassoon Competition 2022!

We are excited to announce that entries are now open for the 2022 Bassoon and Oboe Competition! Entries are now open, and will close on the 15th of May 2022 at 11.59pm. Guidelines: The New Zealand Double Reed Society proudly presents the NZDRS Oboe and Bassoon Competition 2022 The New Zealand Double Reed Society (NZDRS) is a branch of the Australasian Double Reed Society, a non-profit organisation which promotes and enhances the knowledge of double reed instruments (oboe and bassoon family). NZDRS runs a chamber music club, regular performer’s evenings, masterclasses and other workshops throughout the year. The NZDRS is excited to announce the third ever Oboe and Bassoon Competition. Performers are to send in video recordings of their performance, which will be judged by oboist Martin Lee and bassoonist Ingrid Hagan.
