Based in Melbourne, oboist Martin Lee has a wealth of experience as an orchestral player and as an oboe teacher. He studied under several renowned oboists, Jeffrey Crellin, Anthony Camden and Emanuel Abbuhl. Martin performed with the Auckland Philharmonia for many years, first as Principal Oboe and later Principal Cor Anglais, and has appeared a number of times as oboe soloist with the Auckland Philharmonia, Auckland Chamber Orchestra and the Dunedin Sinfonia.
Ingrid Hagan is an American-born bassoonist and Principal Bassoonist of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. She is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, where she studied with Whitney Crockett of the Metropolitan Opera. Ingrid has appeared internationally with ensembles in Sweden, Cuba, Venezuela, Guatemala, Panama, and Germany, and has also performed as a soloist with the Breckenridge Music Festival and the Auckland Philharmonia.
Born in Saskatoon, Canada, Bede Hanley has a Bachelor of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music, Ohio, where he studied with John Mack, legendary principal oboe of the Cleveland Orchestra. He is currently Section Principal Oboe of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra and has also held positions with Spain’s Orquesta Sinfonica de Galicia and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Canada. A Yamaha Artist, Bede has performed with many symphony and opera orchestras internationally and is in demand as a soloist, recitalist, chamber musician and teacher.
Sam Brough joined the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra as Principal Contrabassoonist in September 2022 following three years as Principal Bassoon with Swedish chamber orchestra, Dalasinfoniettan. He studied at the Royal Northern College of Music (Manchester UK) and Hochschule für Musik, Mannheim (Germany). Sam has been a guest player with major orchestras throughout the UK and Scandinavia, and is currently on trial with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra (Associate Principal).
Rachel Guan Ebbett was born in China, where she was accepted into the central conservatory in Bei Jing at age 12. Upon graduation with Honours, she decided to pursue her music study abroad. She received a full scholarship to attend the Harid conservatory in Florida USA where she studied with Arthur Weisberg. Upon graduating with a Bachelor of Music, she was offered a teaching assistantship at the Louisiana State University where she received a Master of Music performance degree under the Guidance of William Ludwig. She came to New Zealand upon winning the associate principal bassoon position in May 2005, and has enjoyed the lifestyle of this beautiful land.
